Dental bridge
A dental bridge is a prosthesis that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the neighboring teeth, known as “abutments.”
Replacing a missing tooth isessentialfor several reasons
- A missing tooth affects speech and chewing; a bridge helps restore your ability to chew.
- It enhances the look of your smile, especially with ceramic crowns.
- It keeps neighboring teeth from shifting.
- It helps maintain the shape of your face.
A bridge generally lasts 10 years or more, as long as you maintain excellent oral hygiene and have a checkup at least once a year.
Here are thestepsof placing a dental bridge
-
Preparation
The dentist reshapes the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. Each one will be covered with a crown, which means a bridge involves at least three crowns.
-
3D impression
A 3D digital impression of your teeth is taken to create a custom-made bridge. A temporary prosthesis can be placed between the two appointments.
-
Placement
At the second appointment, usually a week later, the custom-made bridge is bonded to the abutment teeth.

Bridge or implant: a solutiontailoredto every situation
Choosing between a bridge and an implant depends on several factors. An implant is the go-to option when no tooth can serve as an abutment; a bridge, on the other hand, can be placed quickly and looks very much like natural teeth.
