Fissure sealants
Fissure sealants protect permanent molars from cavities with a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth.
Fissure sealing ishelpfulfor several reasons
- Permanent molars often have deep grooves that make them more vulnerable to cavities.
- It protects these areas from plaque and bacteria buildup.
- It significantly reduces the risk of cavities from an early age.
- It supports good long-term oral health in children.
Fissure sealants are recommended for children from around age 6, once the permanent molars have fully erupted.
Here are thestepsof fissure sealing
-
Isolation
The dentist places a dental dam, a silicone sheet that isolates the teeth, then cleans and dries the tooth to remove any trace of plaque or saliva.
-
Application
The coating is applied to the surface of the tooth, covering all the grooves, then hardened with a curing light to make it strong and durable.
-
Finishing
The dentist checks that all areas are fully covered, then adjusts the bite to prevent any discomfort when chewing.

A quickandpainless treatment

They are generally recommended as soon as a child’s first permanent molars come in, often around age 6.
Is the procedure painful?
No, sealing is a painless procedure. The area doesn’t need to be numbed, and the treatment is completed in a single visit.
How do I care for sealed teeth?
Care is the same as for unsealed teeth: regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental visits.
